NPRA registration
& the MAL number.
How supplement registration works in Malaysia — what the NPRA is, what a MAL number is, the process, and what your manufacturer handles for you.
You cannot legally sell a supplement in Malaysia until it is registered. The process is manageable, especially when your manufacturer handles it — but it pays to understand it. Here is the essentials.
What the NPRA is
The NPRA (National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency), under the Ministry of Health, regulates pharmaceuticals and health supplements in Malaysia. Supplements are notified to the NPRA before they can be sold, which is how the regulator confirms the product and its claims are acceptable.
What a MAL number is
When a product is successfully notified, the NPRA issues a registration number — the MAL number — which appears on the packaging. A MAL number is what makes your supplement legal to sell in Malaysia, and is a trust signal to buyers and marketplaces.
The registration process
In outline: the formula is screened against permitted and prohibited ingredient lists; a dossier is prepared with the product details, ingredients and labelling; the notification is submitted to the NPRA; and once approved, the MAL number is issued. Getting the formula and dossier right up front is the main lever for avoiding delays.
What we handle for you
As an end-to-end manufacturer, we screen the formula, prepare the dossier, make the submission and manage the process through to your MAL number — and secure the Certificate of Free Sale if you intend to export. You get a product that is legal to sell, not just made.
FAQ
Quick answers.
Do I need a MAL number to sell a supplement in Malaysia?
Yes — a supplement must be notified to the NPRA and carry its MAL number to be sold legally. We handle the registration that obtains it.
How long does NPRA registration take?
It varies with the product and the regulator's workload. A complete, compliant dossier prepared up front is the best way to avoid avoidable delays.
Can you handle the registration for me?
Yes — we prepare and submit the dossier and manage the process through to your MAL number, so you do not navigate the NPRA yourself.
What about selling overseas?
For export we also secure the Certificate of Free Sale and can register with the destination market's authority, so the product is legal abroad too.
