Advertising limits and botanical dosing for blood sugar
Blood-sugar support and advertising limits
Diabetes is the category where the copy carries more risk than the formula. Malaysian law makes advertising the treatment of certain named diseases an offence, and diabetes is one of them. So the product is built and worded as blood-sugar support for people already within a normal range, and the actives are chosen to match.
Schedule restriction
The Medicines (Advertisement and Sale) Act 1956 prohibits advertising a product as a treatment for the diseases listed in its Schedule, and diabetes is one of them. The brand name is advertising too, so a name that promises glucose control is itself a claim.
Advertising clearance
Advertisements for registered supplements aimed at the Malaysian public need clearance from the Medicine Advertisements Board before they run. Budget time for it and design artwork that will survive review, rather than redrawing everything after rejection.
Cinnamon species matters
Cassia cinnamon is the cheap default and carries coumarin, which is hepatotoxic at sustained intake. Ceylon cinnamon, Cinnamomum verum, is far lower in coumarin and costs more. Specify the species on the raw material spec, not just cinnamon extract.
Standardised botanicals
Gymnema is bought on gymnemic acid content, commonly 25 per cent, bitter melon on charantin, and mulberry leaf on 1-deoxynojirimycin. Buying on extract weight alone means potency shifts every time the supplier changes lot.
Alpha lipoic acid handling
Alpha lipoic acid is sulphurous, hygroscopic and light-sensitive, and the R-isomer is the active half. It smells, so it needs a sealed capsule and a foil blister rather than an open jar or a chewable.
Registration route
Products sold in Malaysia are registered with NPRA and carry a MAL number. Whether the file goes in as a health supplement or a traditional preparation depends on the ingredients and the claim set, so settle that before artwork is drawn.
Formats
Minerals and standardised extracts fit capsules comfortably at these doses. Pre-meal actives such as mulberry leaf or viscous fibre suit a sachet taken with water, because the timing is the mechanism. Chewables are a poor fit, since they usually need a sugar or polyol base that fights the positioning.
Halal & sourcing
Chromium and alpha lipoic acid are synthetic and neutral. The halal question sits with the botanicals, because most standardised extracts are made using ethanol, so you need the extraction solvent declared and the residual solvent result on file.
