What it costs to
make supplements.
What actually drives the cost of manufacturing supplements in Malaysia — the components, the role of MOQ, and how to get an accurate quote.
There is no single price for manufacturing a supplement — it depends on what you make and how much. But the cost is predictable once you understand the components. Here is how it breaks down.
What drives the cost
Three things move the price most: the format (capsules and tablets are cheaper to run than custom gummies, sachets or drinks), the actives (premium or trending ingredients cost more), and the order size (larger runs lower the per-unit price). Packaging, registration and design are then layered on top.
The cost components
A typical project has a few distinct costs: formulation and sampling; packaging design and the physical packaging; Halal and NPRA registration; and the production run itself. A good manufacturer keeps sampling free — taking only a refundable RM250/SKU deposit credited back against your first order — so development cost is not lost once you proceed.
How MOQ affects unit price
Minimum order quantity and unit price are linked: a small first run costs more per unit but far less in total, which is what lets a new brand start without risking a large budget. As you reorder in larger volumes, the per-unit price falls. Starting lean and scaling is almost always the right call for a new brand.
Getting an accurate quote
To price your product accurately, a manufacturer needs the format, the actives or benchmark, the rough order size and your packaging direction. With those, you should get a written quote covering formulation, design and production — not a vague range.
FAQ
Quick answers.
Is there a fixed price to make a supplement?
No — it depends on format, actives and volume. But the components are predictable, and a written quote removes the guesswork.
Why is MOQ important to the cost?
A smaller minimum lowers your total outlay and risk, even though the per-unit cost is higher; larger reorders then bring the unit price down.
Do I pay for samples?
Sampling is usually free, secured by a refundable RM250/SKU deposit that's credited back against your first production order, so it is not money lost.
