Dosing ceramides, astaxanthin and hyaluronic acid
Oral skin actives beyond collagen peptides
Skin supplements that are not collagen sit in a different formulation world. The actives are milligram-scale, several are oil-soluble, and two of the strongest performers are intensely coloured. That combination pulls the product away from the clear powder sachet most brand owners picture and towards an oil-phase or coated format.
Buy ceramides on ceramide content
Oral phytoceramides from rice bran or konjac are sold at 30 to 60 mg of standardised extract, but actual glucosylceramide content is only a few milligrams. Specify the glucosylceramide figure, because extract weight on its own tells you nothing.
Astaxanthin brings colour with it
Astaxanthin from Haematococcus pluvialis is used at 4 to 12 mg. It is oil-soluble, light-sensitive and deep red, so it bleeds through clear shells and stains tablet coatings. An opaque format in an opaque pack is the usual answer.
Hyaluronic acid depends on molecular weight
Oral doses of 120 to 240 mg daily are typical. Low molecular weight material, roughly 5 to 50 kDa, is the form used orally because high molecular weight hyaluronic acid is not absorbed intact. It is also aggressively hygroscopic as a powder.
Photoprotective botanicals
Polypodium leucotomos at 240 to 480 mg and tomato lycopene at 5 to 15 mg are the standard oral photoprotection actives. Lycopene is oil-soluble and oxidises, so it needs an oil carrier plus tocopherol. Neither may be presented as replacing sunscreen.
Emulsification decides the drink option
Turning oil-soluble actives into a beverage means emulsifying or encapsulating them first. That adds a processing step, changes mouthfeel and shortens shelf life. Splitting the oil-soluble actives into their own SKU is usually cheaper and more stable.
Skin conditions are diseases
Acne, eczema and psoriasis are medical conditions, so a health supplement cannot be presented as a treatment for them in Malaysia. Zinc, omega-3 and probiotics can sit in a general skin-health product, but the claim stays at maintenance level.
Formats
Hard capsules and tablets handle ceramides, hyaluronic acid and the water-soluble vitamins well, and can start from as few as 100 boxes. Oil-soluble actives need an oil-phase format, a coated beadlet, or a properly emulsified base before they go anywhere near a powder or a drink.
Halal & sourcing
Oil-phase actives are usually delivered in gelatin-based shells or gelatin-coated beadlets, and standard gelatin is bovine or porcine. Fish gelatin and starch-based non-gelatin alternatives exist. Marine-derived actives such as astaxanthin need their own certificates too.
